Upward Undulations
Week 1 (06/14/23)
Working with the hip shimmy and various hip isolations and movements to mobilize the hips as we prepare for upward undulations.
Week 2 (06/21/23)
Working with the starting points for upwards undulations - pelvic drops and horizontal slides back.
Week 3 (06/2823)
Shimmying for hip mobility, reworking our horizontal slide back and our drops again, mid ab contractions and belly rolls.

Fluid & Funky Phrases
Week 1 (06/15/23) FUN!!! Some fairly quick and rich phrases that have hits as well as fluidity. We could have worked this another hour easily!

Week 3 (06/29/23)
Fairly straight forward phrases this week, ending the class with putting them to a second song.
Week 4 (07/13/23)
Argh… A quick recap as I forgot to press record during class. These phrases were wonderfully fluid and snaky, giving us the opportunity to flow and not focus as much on counts or being in the ‘right’ place at the ‘right’ time.

Repetition - exact and with variations, doubles, 16 ways to vary a motif.
16 ways to manipulate a motif
* We used the ideas but didn’t talk about building or using a motif per say… So don’t be limited by that!
There are many ways in which you can explore and manipulate a motif. Manipulation of the motif allows you to reinforce your idea, and adds variation and contrast and provides unity within your dance. The manipulation of the motif is not done just to restate the intent. It should be manipulated and explored purposefully to further communicate the intent and further develop the idea.
Repetition - repeat exactly the same
Retrograde - perform it backwards
Inversion - perform it upside-down
Size - condense or expand
Tempo - fast, slow, stop
Rhythm - Vary the rhythm but not the tempo
Quality - vary the movement quality, eg. Try the same movement quivery, drifting, with erratic tension etc
Instrumentation - Perform the movement with a different body part
Force - vary the amount of force you use in producing the movement
Background - change the design of the rest of the body from its original position and repeat the motif
Staging - perform it at a different place on the stage, or facing a different direction
Embellishment - The movement itself can have the embellishment (zig zag occurring along the path of the movement)
Change of planes/levels - plane – frontal, transverse, sagittal, Level – high, medium, low
Additive/incorporative - incorporate a jump or slide etc to motif
Fragmentation - Use only part of the motif, any part.
Combination - Combine any of the above.

Creating - putting things together into phrases, short bits, or sketches (thanks Sarah!).
Generating content, selecting and developing.
Week 4 (07/13/23)
Working with 3 dimensional space - wring and twist, as well as back body or performing in the round.
Week 5 (07/20/23)
Working without arms!
Week 6 (07/27/23)
A full working class.
