Welcome to Season 3!
I’m thrilled to be starting our third season of the AIM Mentorship Program!
Unofficially, the program started many years ago as we gathered at the studio on Augusta, with cups of tea in hand, and talked about dance, and our successes and failures. The more people shared, the more I realized how necessary the sharing was. Creative work is often done alone, and our thoughts and processes are sometimes thought to be magic… But if you know me at all, I think you probably know that I don’t think it’s magic at all! It’s all about trying and doing, and then doing again.
Not exactly science, but not magic either!
After a few seasons of online classes during the pandemic, I realized I was doing a lot of coaching and mentoring as people were navigating this new online based dance life, and so, the AIM Mentorship Program begun.
AIM stands for Achievement In Motion and has two meanings that I thought fitting. Obviously ‘In Motion’ refers to dance and describes our pursuit, effort and skills we acquire. Maybe more importantly, the idea that we attain success when we are doing, and not doing equates to being stagnant and still.
If I could sum up all the advice I’ve given over the 23 years of teaching, it would be to keep doing, stay in motion… So Achievement In Motion would be that advice.
For our first meeting…
Since we have some new people joining us (welcome and thank you!), and since it’s the start of a new season, I’d like you to think about (and to be ready to share either by speaking or entering into the Zoom chat) something…
If it’s your first season with me, what are you hoping to get out of this or why did you sign up for AIM?
If you’re returning, same question, AND I’d love to know two things from your experience from last year.
1. Something from last year’s AIM that you got a lot out of, and why/how it helped you.
2. Something from last year’s AIM that you want to get more out of this year, and why/how do you think it might help you.
That’s all, for now! See you online on September 19
If you have any questions, lemme know below in the comments (because you’re probably not the only person wondering…)
